Trust plastic on rushed, half-awake mornings

Buy for your habits, not your palate
The material that survives being knocked off a counter and thrown in a bag for travel is worth more to most people than the one with marginally better thermal properties — and that's plastic, every time. Ceramic chips and hairline-cracks catastrophically on the first real drop, and hot rinse water straight into a cold sink can shock it into failing on its own. Metal survives all of that but dents easily and picks up a tannin stain in the ridges that no scrubbing shifts. A cheap plastic dripper will physically outlast the months you spend still getting grind size and pour rate wrong anyway, so there's no reason to gamble a pricier material on technique you haven't nailed yet.

The sealed air gap genuinely stops heat escaping into the room mid-brew, but it does nothing for the initial heat-sink hit when your water first touches the material — you still need to pre-warm exactly as carefully as a single-wall version. At three to four times the price, with one more cavity to dry out properly if water ever gets between the walls, that's paying a premium to solve half the problem.
